Collins Emergency plan
Flood Emergency
12/20/18

My plan for an emergency flood is to gather up as many people as i can and get the word spread around that the flood is coming from which direction. I would get all the supplies needed and all possible. then I would find high ground and try to help assist everyone to save there pets kids and love ones in a safe area. with tarp spread out over homes to block windows door and cars to help get less damage to personal property so that less things you have to worry about instead of be scared that you might lose a home or specail items that are being charished by you. By looking at other flood I realize that things are being damaged wether they are there to see it or not but if I knew the flood was coming I would help support the cost of damages before hand like bording up the door to places.
Anything that can get ruined. and some people dont know how to swim so to get life jackets would be a huge save too with multiple layers of clothes on too so you dont get cold. buy rafts from the store or cannos so you can be above ground level. while teaming up with armed forces and firefighters so everyone is on the same page before hand so they can perpare for the issue before it happens. but to improve survival overall for me and my fellow community is to get as much resources as possible while finding high ground with enought supplies to help us last at least a few days because its never garentee when the flood will go away.Image result for flood chart
and as you can see over the years floods will not go away if annything increase little by little chart shows to 2007 but to this day certian loaction still gets floods. and should have no reason to always be prepare for one that can come out of the blue. learning a lot from the 102 9/11 movie show me how you should be prepare for anything that could happen.

Antony' Emergency Plan

EARTHQUAKE
My natural disaster is an 8.0 Earthquake. It would be one of the most powerful earthquakes in the United States in order to happen. If the Earthquake this massive were to happen many things would be destroyed. Building would be falling apart, phone lines would be down, the streets would crack and open up. Even though the earthquake wouldn't be preventable, we would be informed before it hit and be able to prepare. In order to prepare for it, I would first make a rally point with my family somewhere, that way when the phone lines went out we would be able to meet up and know we were safe. I would go out and buy as much food and medical supplies as I could get. I would also get radios for my family members because its a stronger way to communicate. Its a lot to plan nut in a situation like this you would need to plan it fast. It wouldn't need a lot of people in order for my plan to work but the more people involved in planning it would be easier to communicate with others and the planning would go faster.

I learned a lot by watching the 102 minute film and that made me think about what would I do if that were to actually happen. In this case, it's an earthquake, but the film made me think of how many people couldn’t contact their loved ones and couldn’t get the medical help they needed. I believe my plan is good, and it will help in order to reach my family. I do believe in order to improve it I would have to take into consideration all the debris and rebel that is falling, and all the panic going all around. I do believe I would be prepared for a good week but after supplies would start running low.

Omar Emergency Managment Plan Blog Posting

If a tornado were to happen in Evanston there would be many warnings on the news, TV, and radio so there wouldn't be any way that you wouldn't know. If that were to happen my plan would be to get as much water and food as possible, turn off all radios and TV,s and gather my family in the basement bathroom where there are no windows.
Getting as much food and water as I can is going to be really important because if the tornado hits my house or where im at it will cause a lot of damage and we could be stuck underneath all the walls and stuff for a long time and without food or water we would die. When a tornado or really strong storm hits there is usually a lot of thunder and lighting and that can also be really dangerous because it can come down a strike something or someone and people can get hurt really bad. Something that attracts lighting and thunder a lot is electricity so I would turn off all TV’s and radios that are around and i will tell everyone to stay away from electricity. The safest spot to go to when a tornado hits ground is your basement because you are more protected there so i would take everyone downstairs.
What I've learned after watching 102 minutes that changed America is that in a really bad situation you have to learn how to stop and think and come up with a good plan because if you panic and make quick decisions without thinking it out you might get yourself in really bad positions. It might be hard at the moment but that will decide whether you live and safe others or die.

Flood
I am addressing an emergency preparedness in the event if a flood would occur. Floods can be caused by an excessive amount of rain and by the rising levels of water in rivers, lakes, and oceans. In our case in Evanston we would more than likely get a flood from a storm surge. I will now get into the plan that will keep all of us from harm in this kind of situation.
Image result for flood
The perils involved if this situation were to occur are very serious. There is a danger of drowning, or electrocution. If you are outside in this situation you should avoid driving vehicles through the high rising water. If you are in a home or a building of any kind, you should find your way to the high ground. This will allow you to create separation from the water and yourself, also if you can find a flare or anything to create some sort of signal on the high ground that would help so you can get help.

In case of a real situation I would expect my plan to work fairly well because those are the basics of what you need to survive in that situation depending of course on the seriousness of the flood. There is not much I think I could do to better prepare myself for this situation.Image result for flood rescues

Jennifer's Emergency Management Plan

Jennifer's Emergency Management Plan
If there were to be a Tornado here in Evanston my family and I would have a greater chance of surviving and in general be safer because of this plan. In advance we will have a first aid kit ready to go and in place in our house. This kit will have band aids, flash light, water, canned food, batteries, etc. Even a whistle will be included in this. Some may think it wouldn't do much but in this case service towers and overall power will be out which means there is really no way of communicating. This whistle will help call out for help since it will draw attention and eventually first responders can come to us. If we are at home we would go down to the basement and remain there until it is safe to go out. If we are somewhere else and not together, we would find the nearest hallway or stairwell and avoid windows. Once it is safe we can attempt to contact each other and if possible go home.
I believe this plan would be successful enough to keep us safe. Preparing in advance for a situation like this benefits my family and other people. This plan being created in advance can help my family and I remain calm which can help the situation. While others being chaotic and panicking my family and I would be much more controlled and calm. We can eventually help de-escalate the situation and possibly help others. In addition, when people remain calm they can act quicker and more efficiently. In addition to being calm, we now have knowledge of where the safest spots are so we will be prepared for this situation.

Social Media Article

One of the many good communicators possible for school announcements would be twitter. It is easy to run a social media page that can provide information in case of an emergency. For instance, if the forecast showed there was going to be heavy rain and possibly lighting and a Friday night during a football game they could make that announcement on Twitter. Social media is a great way to get something spread very quickly. On average teens spend 9 hours on social media a day, and not all at the same time. Also, word spreads quickly about certain things. If people to mostly follow the accounts with the updates then many people would know. Social media is also good to have people organize their clubs better, for instance, if someone were to switch the time of a club meeting last minute there could be an announcement on the Instagram page in a group chat. It is also more common to be seen if it is on social media. Social media is now a great way to communicate, life is full of technology.

Dennis Honors Assignment

10/2/18

ETHS for me is a very safe environment and welcoming environment. I feel like I can express to the school who I really am and be who I want to be. I believe the school does a great job with using social media to keep our kids updated and let people know about events that have been going on. On the other hand I feel like ETHS needs to have more current updates on their social media to let people really know what is going on each and everyday. With the recent passing with one of our fellow seniors I personally believe it should have been noticed a little bit more because it is a fellow life that has been taken by us because of certain things that has happened to him or things that have happened to him. Instead of one week of suicide prevention why are we not told all the time by our social media ETHS to always love yourself and that we are always here for you. This is just the way I see it, it is not that ETHS is in a bad position with social media I just believe it could be a little bit better to really give that big emphasis to the fact that they are always here for us.

This article is about firefighters having PTSD. Firefighting is not just about putting out fires they also have to respond to motor vehicle accidents, burn victims, severely injured victims, and violent deaths. Recent study's show that firefighters have a 12.6  percent rate for PTSD. This is high compared to the overall population. What we can do to fix this is have mental health professionals and fire department staff trained to recognize signs of PTSD.

The main point of the article is spread awareness about PTSD among firefighters and how we can fix it. This is very important we need to help firefighters it is not a a easy job.

I agree with the article helping firefighters I think they are some of the most important people. Sometimes things are difficult and we need to have mental health professionals recognize these signs and to talk to the firefighters on a normal basis.

One thing I would like to add is even if we recognize signs of PTSD what would we do or who would we go to?

Honors Assignment

I think it is a great idea to have a practice emergency drill at ETHS. Usually, when something bad happens, people freak out and things get out of hand. Teaching people to handle these tough situations will ensure the safety of the school. It will also assist the first responders because they will have more help so if there are more critical injuries that need medical attention, they will be able to tend to their needs as the student go to the less critical injuries. I think teaching the students will be super beneficial also outside of school areas but if something happens in public, they will be able to assist someone until the first responders arrive.

Natalie Merza Assignment #1

Intro to Public Safety

  1. An overview of the article
    1. The job of a firefighter is not just to put out fires. They have many other jobs on top of that. They are often at incidents with mass casualties for example school shootings or mass shootings in general. They are trained for any disaster that is thrown at them.
  2. Main point of the article
    1. The main point is firefighters deal with some of the most tragic events and many things that include mass casualties not just fires. They have to keep adapting to what is happening in the world so they can train and be ready to handle the situation at hand. There is always something changing and becoming the biggest issue so they need to be able to handle anything thrown at them.
  3. Do you agree with the article
    1. I think this article is more informative so it is not something you can agree or disagree on. But I do agree that the firemen don’t have an easy job. I also agree that the firemen should be adapting and learning how to handle things because they are the first responders. They should be able to help with all situations.
  4. What can you add to the article
    1. I think it is important to emphasize everything the firefighters do. Even with those big things, they also deal with other things too as we learned from FF Mick Morel. It is not always huge things like that which makes a difference but also smaller things that make a difference as well

Article: Firefighters and Trauma
This article talks about what firefighters go through with post traumatic stress disorder. With being a firefighter being one of the most dangerous and stressful occupations in the world you can see why they go through the problems they have. Risking their lives to save others so people in situations that they can get burned alive or die from fumes get saved from these heroic people. Firefighters should be taken care of just like us citizens. Firefighters are tested all the time and learn more and more everyday about their health and their job. Firefighter are learning how to treat PTSD. they see more than fire, they see burned down homes, vehicles, humans, and animals. The main point of this article is to notify people that yes they are heros and take care of our communities but even heroes have their weaknesses. I can have an agreement on this article because a lot of people not just dont know but also don't pay attention to what they go through, most people just think of them as good guys that save lives then wait for the next call with no problem when they really are going through mental problems and need help coping with it and support. Adding to this article I would say what they should do with their job like maybe more firefighters at each station and more room for them to move around in.

Melissa Rivera Blog Post

Over the years the world has been evolving, as well as firefighters.
In fact, the term fire department doesn't tell the full story. The fire
department does more than just puts out fires, they do more medical
calls than fire calls. Many things are happening throughout the world and
it is only getting worse, shootings, bombings etc. Many firefighters and
policemen end up on the same scenes and they have begun to work together.
There are also many natural disasters such as floods and wildfires. Many
firefighters prepare for things like this so they can help their community.
The main point of the article is to talk about the things that firefighters do.
Firefighters do not only put out fires but they do anything that the community ask
from them. The article did not have different points of views, in the article,
it just stated firemen are evolving and learning new things to help their community
become a safer place. Many firemen will be called for many different things such
as medical calls, kids being stuck in rooms (happened to one of my cousins).
Overall firemen need to get more basic training so they can be ready for what's
coming to them.

Jose's Honors Post

I think using social media is a very effective way to communicate with the young and also adults because now of days a lot of persons have phones. Wich is a very effective way to communicate. I believe If developed an app that can be downloaded and used more people will report things that are going on at school or outside of school. It can be anonymous when reporting things. I say this because I know me and many others at high school are pretty lazy and nervous to tell somebody. If we made the app accessible to many students and or teachers and parents. Their most likely won't be a hesitation because it's really easy of doing it and it's very assessable to the public. And if it's anonymous even better it would work. That way everybody can say something comfortably. I do agree in practicing and also doing drills at school realistic drills. Why well because were to happen the students and faculty would be prepared in what to do. Practice does make better. It also I think its very important because we must be able to stay come and be able to do things smoothly in an emergency because if we don't its always a disaster and things always get worst.

Mario Luckett Honors Assignment 3

Nevada Union High school student train to Assist in face of an emergency.

Some suggestion how can ETHS better utilized social media to deal with emergencies around the school or whether is straightforward. Evanston Township High school have a school code to an emergency such as an earthquake, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes and actives shooter events.with some guideline such as choose a meeting place, for example, a fire can create chaos and some student might get separated. So school must go through the rules of evacuation.with these guidelines we can save many lives.ETHS Emergency preparedness must be understandable, So training is the most important piece of the emergency prepared puzzle. ETHS must focus more on their safety budgets on training staff.

Assignment 3

I think that we should work to become more ready to handle disasters at ETHS. There is an idea that the government and the school are just going to take care of you and that you have no personal responsibility. This attitude has made it so that people are just going to take care of you. Practicing in an emergency drill will give the students of ETHS a chance to assess how ready they are to handle an emergency situation and will give them a chance to build skills that will last a lifetime. And it will add importance to one’s life if you know that you are being counted on to help your fellow man,in a time when most people are running away form a problem. And this will help build community as anyone who has done this training will have made new friends and will know that someone is willing to put their lives on the line in order to help them. This is a good program, that will help enrich the lives of those who take part in it.
My biggest question is how much training do you have to do even after you get on the force? Do you train everyday or is a monthly thing? Or just when you get new equipment or something like that?

Assignment 2
This article talks about the trauma that is facing firefighters in this modern day, it talks about how firefighters have a PTSD rate that is comparable to that of soldiers and then it gives some tips on how to help these members of first responder forces deal with their problems. The main point of the article is that firefighters are likely to have emotional problems as they are exposed to graphic unfettered images on the daily. I do agree that we should be doing something more to help our brave service men and women so that we can serve them the way they serve us. We need to make sure we back what their doing and let them know that they are appreciated by us and that we as a community will be there to help them if they should need anything. Most people who serve just want to feel like they are appreciated by people.

Intro To Public Safety

It talks about how many people think of firefighters on just putting a fire out. That's not the case no more now of days there are many, various different task that a firefighter does. We really don't talk about the stigma of PTSD/Mental Illness of what firefighters go through. People see them as Heroes and they are heroes. But forget that they are human and that they go through things just like we do. It is a responsibility to raise the awareness of these things to help and prevent and or help the firefighters and in reality everybody in the public service and outside of public service. Its Important to all departments and or stations to do workshops and talk about these things and not make them be hidden rather talk about. It can and most likely save a life.

The purpose of the reading is to raise awareness of the mental wellness/illness of firefighters. How firefighters, colleagues and civilian persons can spot the signs of mental illness. Even though firefighters are seen as brave and strong they also have emotions like everybody else and go through things. Therefore we should be exposed to and educated in mental illness and what to do and or where or how to get help.

I agree with the article in that we should be aware of mental illness and that we should talk about it. Why well nowadays this is very relevant to today in age. recently in the past years, we have seen more emphasis on becoming more aware and receiving more info on mental illness.

I have two things I would add to the article. One would be real firefighters talking about mental illness sort of like examples which would make more personal and emotional to the readers. Another thing would be if seeing these signs what should one do? Were to contact someone to help this individual or things to help mental illness get better or getting rid of it.

In the article ̈Firefighters and Trauma ̈ it talks about how firefighters deal with PTSD along with everyone else who deal with jobs like firefighters.
Being a Firefighter is definitely the most stressful job because day in and day out they are putting their lives in harm's way.
The PTSD population with Firefighters should be taken care of just like the way they take care of us.
Firefighters have education everyday of their entire career, so they get to learn more and more about how to treat PTSD and how they can speak up about it.
Not only do they stop fires but they also see burned people, major car crashes and that can easily have an effect on them.
The main point of this article is to stress to others outside of Firefighters that yes they are heros and they took up this job to take care of others but it’s also to inform you that even your heros have mental illness and need saving too.
I agree with the article because if you wouldn’t have read this article you would have no idea what’s going on with our heros.
It supports that Firefighters need that extra support and that they need mental support because of everything they see throughout their day.
If I could add to this article it would be that Firefighters should be able to build bigger stations and add more Firefighters to each station because having about 2-4 workers is not enough.
That way splitting jobs would be more easier and it would move the process longer.
